OUR PLEDGE..A POINT OF VIEW..!!!
INDIAN NATIONAL PLEDGE
India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders, respect, and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.
JAI HIND.
This was probably the first pledge I took…and subsequently broke. Before throwing the bricks and bats, please give me a patient hearing. I'm an Indian. Can you relate to a person with whom you don't share religion, region or language in common, just your nationality?
Here are some of my grouses against this pledge:
India is my country. (No doubt, I agree)
All Indians are my brothers and sisters. (Ohh really..! Then what will I call to my father, mother, wife, children, cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and all those people.?? Couldn’t the pledge-makers just settle for ‘All Indians are my family’ or something like that..??)
I love my country. (I really do. Even with its people having unhygienic habits like spitting and peeing in public; eve teasing & rape attempts: constitutes a major percentage of crimes in U.P.; corruption; etc.)
I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. (Which heritage you are talking about mann..! Heritage which includes abusing and killing people who are not of my own religion, demolishing places of worship that were themselves built after demolishing some other place of worship; my national heritage consists of a series of invasions on my country that were often encouraged by my fellow countrymen and were accepted all in the name of love for peace; where so called politicians are becoming rich through corruption by devastating their own inner conscience: not to forget CWG, 2G & COALGATE corruption scandals; the issue of black money..?)
I shall always strive to be worthy of it. (Wish..! Somebody could tell me HOW?)
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders, respect, and treat everyone with courtesy(I do, I do, I do for sure..)
To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion. In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness. (Hey, if I look after the well being and prosperity of my country’s people, who’s gonna look after MY well being and prosperity in today's competitive and die hard time..where everyone is living for himself & fighting hard against all odds for their existence..?)
Thus basically, I was forced to take a pledge that was DESIGNED to be broken. So now I have no moral grounds for protesting when doctors, politicians, lawyers, etc. break THEIR OWN PLEDGE!!!
India has a population more than 1.2 billion. But who cares? Out of such a large poplulation, barely a handful of hunks and guys follow our PLEDGE and abide through it!!!
How many of us are able to stand by our commitments? Or give any importance to the commitments we make? Is this not the root problem of our country? That we give so little value to commitments and our morals (including PLEDGE) that we are not even surprised when commitments made to us are broken? Haven’t we sunk to a stage where we EXPECT political commitments to be broken?
To what extent are we willing to let our government bend laws for its own convenience? Will we still be as easy with our "chalta-hai" attitude if a future government decides that it needs all the murderers, rapists and sundry criminals to 'rule' our country? What would be our reaction if such a government directs the authorities to release all such criminals? What would we do if we had criminals governing us?
For that matter, what are we doing now?
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
NOW THE TIME HAS CAME FOR ALL OF US TO WAKE UP & THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE SOLUTION FOR ALL THE PROBLEMS:
"OUR COUNTRY NEEDS LEADERS & NOT THE POLITICIANS"..!!!!!
